You are cordially invited to the next event from ‘The Base Creates’: a rehearsed reading of Goethe’s ‘Faust: Part One‘ followed by a response from Sebastian Milbank. Then we will have an open discussion with the audience, followed by drinks and chat into the night.

Saturday 16th March

The Church of St Batholomew the Great

London

EC1A 9DS

Arrival at 6pm for a 6.30pm start

Goethe’s ‘Faust: Part One’ is one of the greatest works of German literature. A dazzling version of the Faustian story, full of unforgettable scenes and fizzing with ideas. This is a unique opportunity to hear the text brought to life by professional actors, in the stunning setting of the church of St Bartholomew the Great, London’s oldest surviving church. The reading will be followed by a response to the text by writer Sebastian Milbank (The Critic).

This is third in a series of events by ‘The Base Creates’, founded by Morgan Watkins and Oliver Bennett. Our mission is to build a vibrant and meaningful cultural scene. Starting by staging monthly readings of great texts from the Western canon, we want to explore, excavate and reinvigorate a timid and conformist dramatic sector. We will bring together interesting figures from the world of the dramatic arts to be inspired by powerful texts, unorthodox thinkers and find new ways of creating together.

We look forward to seeing you there,

Morgan & Oli
